US Election: Mitt Romney takes North Carolina

Mitt Romney has taken North Carolina and its 15 electoral college votes.

This win pushes Romney’s total up to 178, 50 behind Barack Obama by my count.

North Carolina was considered a swing state in the 2012 election after Barack Obama became the first Democrat to win the state in 2008 since, regional son, Jimmy Carter won there in 1976.

Other than Carter’s win the state voted Republican in every presidential election between 1968 and 2004.

Despite this presidential Republican leaning the majority of other elected public offices are held by Democrats.

Total Votes so Far:
Barack OBAMA (Dem): 228/270
Mitt ROMNEY (Rep):178/270
