US Election: Barack Obama takes Washington

Democratic candidate, Barack Obama has won Washington state, adding another 12 electoral college votes to his total meaning he now has 240.

This means he only needs 30 more votes to win a second term  in the White House and win the election outright.

Washington has a strong east-west political divide, with the eastern portion of the state, close to the Idahoan border is staunchly Republican, however this state was considered a pretty safe bet for Barack Obama

This is due to the fact two thirds of the state live in the Seattle Metropolitan area.

He won the state in 2008 with a 17% margin and polls suggest the state would vote for him a second time from a relatively early stage in the election process.

Washington has voted for the Democratic Presidential candidate in every election since 1988.

Total Votes so Far:
Barack OBAMA (Dem): 240/270
Mitt ROMNEY (Rep): 178/270
